Mark H.
Lawrence is the Principal Trombonist with the San Francisco Symphony.
He has also been Principal Trombonist with the Denver Symphony, a
member of the Empire Brass, and is a graduate of the Curtis Institute
of Music.
Mr. Lawrence
is an active soloist, clinician, chamber musician, and teacher. He has
performed at the International Brass Conference, the International
Trombone Conference, and is a frequent recitalist in this country and
abroad. He has been soloist with the San Francisco Symphony on several
occasions, and has been guest artist with many other orchestras and
concert bands as well. Mr. Lawrence is a founding member of Summit
Brass, an ensemble comprised of outstanding brass players from across
America. In addition, he is a member of Bay Brass, (San
Francisco’s large brass ensemble), and Chicago’s
Music of the Baroque. Mr. Lawrence has performed at several music
festivals including, the Colorado Music Festival, the Grand Teton Music
Festival, the Lieksa Brass Festival in Finland, and the Tanglewood
Institute.
Mr. Lawrence
has given Master Classes worldwide, and has been on the faculties of
Boston University, the Tanglewood Institute, the Music Academy of the
West, the Rafael Mendez Brass Institute, and most recently,
Northwestern University. He currently teaches at the San Francisco
Consevatory of Music. Many of his former students have successful
orchestral careers in the U.S. and Europe.
Mr.
Lawrence’s discography includes three solo CDs, ten chamber
music CDs, with Summit Brass, Empire Brass, Center City Brass Quintet,
Bay Brass, and trombone quartet, and over forty CDs with the San
Francisco Symphony.
Recently,
Mr. Lawrence and his colleague from the San Francisco Symphony, Paul
Welcomer, formed a publishing company, MarcoPaulo Publications, which
specializes in music for the trombone, featuring arrangements by both,
including music from Mr. Lawrence’s solo albums.
